Het Rijnlands Lyceum Presents: The good person from Sezuan

Three gods are looking for a good person in the Chinese city of Sezuan. All the citizens of the city, however, are not welcoming. Only the prostitute Shen Te is willing to give them shelter; a good person! The gods reward her with a small fortune, from which Shen Te decides to purchase a tobacco shop. Family, friends and neighbours immediately try to exploit her sympathy and her wealth. Fortunately, her cousin Shui Ta comes to her aid to fight them off.

Suddenly, Shen Te disappears. The Sezuan residents come to realize that they would rather have kind Shen Te than her strict cousin. The only question that remains is why somebody would vanish off the face of the earth?

The clue of the case is revealed in court, where the gods temporarily return to bring the verdict in: was Shen Te a truly good person?

“She is good but I’m afraid that she’ll fail under these heavy circumstances.”

More than 80 other students and teachers have already been contributing to this show for months. Main roles are played by Madelief Landwier (T5), Ruben de Roode (T6), and Liam Huijgens (DP1).

The play is – like our school – bi-lingual.

“I am a mail pilot without mail. You can’t understand what that means. Damned emails.”
